Immigrant Investors
March 23rd, 2008Immigration management has increasingly become a major issue in most developed countries. As the number of immigrants has grown, destination countries have also adopted a more sophisticated approach.
Today, most developed countries welcome different classes of immigrants and different programs have been developed in order to better answer their needs.
Most programs follow approximately the same guidelines. They select the candidates based on criterion in their origin countries and in their destination country.
Origin:
- Candidates must demonstrate that they have necessary assets
- Candidates must demonstrate that they have required management experience
Destination:
- Candidates must make a significant financial contribution to the destination country
- This investment can be made passively or managed actively by the immigrant
- Some countries also have conditions on physical presence of the immigrant
Meryl Lynch and Cap Gemini have completed an extensive study on the numbers and habits of High Net Worth Individuals. You can download the study here.
All immigration programs for High Net Worth Individuals (HNWI) have pros and cons. It is important to really take the time to compare them on the same basis and make up your own mind. Most immigration intermediaries (lawyers/consultants) master only one program or two. Also certain programs pay the intermediaries a lot more than others. These systemic differences are the reason why certain programs are pushed to immigrant investors more than others.
